Description:

Percutaneous coronary interventions are life-saving methods for many patients presenting with coronary or cardiac disease. Meticulous technique and attention to detail are of utmost importance. Many patients present with complex anatomy, difficult clinical scenarios, or challenging problems. In this lecture, Dr. Ragosta describes the risk factors, complications, and therapeutic responses that can occur during PCI.

Note: This course is eligible for ACPE credit.

You Will Learn

  • To identify complications that are unique to Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) and to enumerate techniques to avoid those complications.
  • To explain the incidence and severity of potential complications of PCI.
  • To describe the pathology and imaging findings of coronary perforations and dissections
  • To define the causes and treatment of cardiac tamponade complicating PCI.

Method and medium:

Michael Ragosta III, MD

Dr. Michael Ragosta is an attending cardiologist at the University of Virginia Health System with a sub-specialty in interventional cardiology. His clinical practice includes complex percutaneous coronary intervention, myocardial infarction, valvular heart disease, structural heart disease, and general cardiology. Dr. Ragosta is the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at UVA and author of numerous textbooks related to cardiac catheterization and hemodynamic interpretation.
