Creating and Analyzing Process Maps

In another module we reviewed the advantages and opportunities when using process mapping to streamline clinical or operational processes. This module describes how to create and analyze a process map, from defining the start and end points, through visually depicting all process steps, to finally scrutinizing all points for variation, waste, and inefficiencies. This is a critical technique you will employ when faced with converting a poorly performing process to one that functions optimally and creates value for all stakeholders.

You will learn:

  • Define common types of process maps
  • Describe techniques to map simple and complex healthcare processes
  • Describe qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze processes
