Description:

Coronary collaterals are congenitally established channels connecting the epicardial coronary arteries. They vary in size from 20 to 350 microns and thus, many are smaller than the 100 micron imaging resolution of coronary angiography. Collateral channels exist in normal patients but increase in size and number when there is chronic coronary artery disease. In this lesson, we will discuss the clinical significance of coronary collaterals as they relate to patients with coronary heart disease.

You Will Learn

  • To describe the anatomic substrate of coronary collaterals
  • To explain the various techniques for assessing coronary collaterals
  • To recognize the common angiographic appearance of collaterals

Method and medium:

Learners participate in the interactive learning modules by correctly answering multiple choice questions dispersed throughout. Learners will be prompted to try again, if a question is answered incorrectly. The course will open in a new tab - to exit the course, simply close the tab.
