Percutaneous coronary intervention involves a wide range of complexity, from relatively straightforward Type A lesions in a C-shaped right coronary artery to much more complex anatomy. Ostial lesions and bifurcation lesions remain subsets that continue to challenge current interventional strategies and that can have increased risks of subacute closure and/or restenosis.

In this lecture, Dr. Ragosta outlines and defines many of the considerations in approaching such lesions and discusses the appropriate uses and limitations of percutaneous techniques in these lesion subsets.

Course Details

In this course, you will learn:
  • To define and identify ostial and/or bifurcation lesions by coronary angiography.
  • To describe the challenges and limitations of stenting aorto-ostial coronary lesions.
  • To correctly categorize bifurcation lesions using the Medina classification system.
  • To identify bifurcation lesions that can respond successfully to percutaneous technique versus those lesions best treated with coronary artery bypass surgery.

Method and medium:
